Monkey Myth

How does ABC use the tale of the Monkey King to 'anchor' the story? What story, myth, legend, or tale would you use if you were writing a graphic novel and why?

ABC uses the tale of the Monkey king to 'anchor' the story by getting the monkey to admire being a human and not wanting to be a monkey. If I was writing a graphic novel, I would use the story of Anansi's fishing expedition because I am able to easily detect trickery.

The tale of the Monkey King anchors the story because the concept starts teaching a moral lesson that continues. It also has a hook that catches our attention(teenage readers) with the action. If I were to write a graphic novel I would use the myth from the Odyssey, by Homer. The moral of the this epic is of the hero's journey going from something to nothing.

ABC uses the tale of the Monkey King to 'anchor' the story by showing us that the monkey is not happy with being a monkey. He wants to be immortal. I am not exactly sure what story, myth, or legend I would use if I was writing a graphic novel.

Monkey King is the foundation on which the story is built. The other stories are simply building blocks of the plot.If i were to make a novel I would use the myth "all that glitters isn't gold" .

ciara --
i like how you tied "anchor" with "hook". You was like it has a hook that catches the readers attention. I thought it was ironic that you used nautical termss to describe the story.

i agree with ciara. the odyssey would be a great story to make a graphic novel out of, becuase odysseus has so many great travels and pursuits.

Well the myth that i got out of ABC is that "even thought the journey may look long and hard, but when you actually look back you say that was easy". if i were to make a story my myth would be "no one was born with silver spoons in our mouth."

Monkey King is really the main topic in the book. The other storys are there to show how they all met up.They're all are connected in some way.

i think that ABC uses the Monkey King anchor in order to show similarities between the two stories. We see in the story that Jin does not want to be chineese and also we see that The Monkey does not want to be a monkey and he wants to be human. The story that I dont know which story i would use.

I think the Monkey KIng story anchors the whole story in many ways. I think it is well written how the beginning of the story starts off with the myth of the monkey, based off a story from ancient times. Monkey displays much hubris and is tying to prove to the other gods that he is more than a monkey. Then, the novel shifts toward into today's society, where the same thing is happening, the idea of the characters losing their soul and changing their identity. I think the author does well by shifting from the past to the present, but with the same idea.

ABC uses the tale of the Monkey King to anchor the story, as all of the other stories are branched off from it. Jin-Wong's story is branced off through him knowing Wei-Kun, the son of the Monkey King. Then the other story branches through Chin-Kee being the monkey king himself. In a moral way though the Monkey King anchors the story showing that it is better to have just stayed yourself, this could be applied to Jin-Wong wanting to change, as well as Wei-Kun, who didnt want to continue with his destiny. If I were writing a graphic novel, I would base it on the story "The Rangers Apprentice".

I would use Cinderella because the moral is that dreams do come true. No matter how hard people try to break you and kill your spirits you got to stay positive. You have to keep your head up in the midst of all the turmoil. Also the fairy godmother, is their to assist her. So that is saying that you dont have to go through it alone and their is always someone there to help you.
